Resort Casinos: Plan the Right Stay

A resort casino combines lodging with gaming and other amenities, but the mix differs from property to property. Some are built around a large entertainment calendar; others make it easy to stay on site for a weekend. Decide what you want from the stay before you compare the room rate.
Resort, casino hotel, or a short visit?
A full-service resort may include restaurants, a spa, a pool, live shows, and meeting spaces. A casino hotel can focus more tightly on rooms and the gaming floor. A day visit can suit someone who already has lodging nearby. Look at the actual amenities and distances, not just the category in an advertisement.
Compare the real cost of the stay
Room rate is one part of the total. Check resort fees, parking, transportation, dining prices, event tickets, and cancellation terms. If you plan to visit nearby attractions, include travel time and rides in the schedule. A slightly higher room price may be convenient; it is not automatically the better value.
Check the games and the house rules
Game selection, table minimums, hours, and age restrictions differ. Read the venue's current information and follow local rules. A casino's loyalty program or resort credit is not a guarantee of free amenities or favorable odds.
Build in a clear limit
Set separate budgets for lodging, food, entertainment, and gambling. Keep the gaming amount to money you can afford to lose, and use time or deposit controls if available. Casino play should not be part of a plan to recover expenses or finance the trip.
